| cakes and guns........ | You can look but
you can’t touch: Walk into any bakery and be tempted by the mouth-watering
cakes behind the glass shelves. Walk into any gun shop and find the firearms
on display under lock and key. The comical Cakes and Guns is the evolution
of Verticchio’s quest for the perfect marriage of sweets and firepower.
This ongoing series features true-to-life sized images painted flat against
a solid background, focusing the viewer’s attention on the pairing
of the masculine and the feminine, and begs the question, “Why cakes
and guns?” Verticchio’s concept began with a toy cap gun paired with a Hostess cupcake and has evolved to include a 9mm Luger with a German chocolate cake, a Colt Anaconda 44 Magnum with a Lemon Snap Torte with Wild Berries, and a Red Ryder BB gun with Johnny’s 8th Birthday cake. The series will continue to wedding cakes with antique carved rifles, fruit tortes with hand pistols, birthday cakes with super soakers... the options are endless and Verticchio will continue to play matchmaker. |
